Company Section Camp – May 2012

Last weekend seven lads from the Company Section attended the first camp of the year, which is our walking camp. Following years of getting drenched we’ve on a roll of fine weather and this year we were lucky to have perfect walking weather: dry, sunny with a bit of breeze to cool us down.

We stayed at Pindale Farm Outdoor Centre near Hope in the Hope Valley, and once we’d pitched our tents (in record time!), we made our way to Grindleford to start our first day’s walk. The route, covering just over 11 miles, took us towards Hathersage, up onto Eyam Moor and Sir William Hill, down into Froggatt and back up to Grindleford station.

We made very good progress and were back at the campsite by 4.30pm, so we walked up into Pin Dale, found some steep rocky slopes, and practiced using ropes to make handrails and harnesses to go up and down steep slopes.

On the Sunday, after having a leisurely breakfast (Full English of course!), we set off the shorter of the two walks, around 5.5 miles. The route was a round trip into Bradwell, climbing a long steep incline to the Limestone Way and into Castleton, before making our way back to the campsite before leaving for home.

There will be a few aching muscles today, but it was a fabulous weekend in a beautiful part of the country. Here are a few photos:
